Description:

Presenting the fourth edition of a classic text on neuropsychology. This book covers the relationship between brain and behaviour, and will appeal to a wide variety of disciplines. Features: * Neuropsychological abnormalities are described in terms of the function or dysfunction of the lobes of the brain, in contrast to the cognitive approach of the competition. * Discussion of the neuropsychological abnormalities is preceded by a clear introduction to neuroanatomy and neurology. * Includes clearly discussed clinical case examples. New to this edition: * Discussion of advances in concurrent technologies such as neuroimaging. * Clarification of the nature of a behavioural neurology examination, and how it compares and contrasts with more standardised psychometric evaluations. * Updating of dementia section. * Expansion of Brain and Behaviour chapter, putting the approach of the book in the context of related disciplines.

This is the most recent edition of an absolutely essential book for neuropsychologists. I am sure that the previous edition got me through some very tough exams! Walsh presents an anatomical/clinical approach. The presentation is on the functions of the primary lobes, but it is not done at all in a piecemeal way - its really quite integrated. The text is extremely well-written, with comprehensive references spanning the history of neuropsychology. His understanding and presentation of some of the field's outstanding figures like Luria - and how he integrates this material is great. Walsh is clearly scholar, as well as excellent teacher and clinician. The sections on clinical disorders bring together neuroanatomy/neuropathology, historical conceptions, and test findings in a terrific way. This text doesn't just teach facts; it teaches understanding.

A new edition of the classic textbook on the anatomical or localisationist approach to neuropsychology. A new and revised edition of one of the classic textbooks of neuropsychology. Neuropsychological abnormalities are described in terms of the function or dysfunction of the lobes of the brain, in contrast to the cognitive approach of most competing books. Clearly written introductory chapters on the anatomy of the brain and on neurology - very useful for clinical psychology trainees and psychology students. Clearly discussed clinical case histories illustrate the neuropsychological assessment section. Final chapter places the psychoanatomical approach in the context of other disciplines such as cognitive neuropsychology. New case studies added. Updated throughout.
